Common dental emergencies we treat in Lynbrook and Lyndhurst

If you need an emergency dentist in Lyndhurst or Lynbrook, these are the problems we see most often. If yours isn’t listed, call us anyway and we’ll help you work out how urgent it is.
Toothache relief
A toothache can come from decay, a cracked tooth, an irritated nerve or a gum problem. We’ll find the cause with a careful exam and, if needed, X-rays. Then we’ll work to relieve the pain and get you comfortable, and explain your options before any treatment starts.
Broken or chipped teeth
A chip might feel small and sharp against your tongue, while a bigger break can expose the sensitive inner layers of the tooth. We’ll check how deep the damage goes, settle any pain and talk you through repair options, such as a filling or a crown, depending on what the tooth needs.
Knocked-out teeth
A knocked-out adult tooth is very time-sensitive. Ideally, you should be seen within 30 minutes, so please call us straight away. We’ll check the tooth and the area around it and, where possible, No images (cards) work to secure the tooth back in place.
Lost fillings or crowns
When a filling or crown comes out, the tooth underneath can feel sensitive and is more likely to break. We’ll check the tooth, replace the filling, and re-fit or replace the crown where we can. Lynbrook has its own in-house dental lab, which helps with crown and denture repairs.
Abscesses and infections
An abscess is an infection, often around the root of a tooth or in the gum. Signs include a throbbing ache, a pimple-like bump on the gum, swelling, a bad taste or a fever. It needs prompt treatment of the source, so please call us early.
Orthodontic emergencies
Braces and clear aligners can have their own small emergencies, like a wire that pokes, a loose bracket or a cracked aligner. They can make it hard to eat or sleep. We’ll check the problem, adjust or repair what’s needed and help keep your treatment on track.

Knocked-out tooth? What to do in the first 30 minutes

Knocks happen, at school, at footy training or on the backyard trampoline. A knocked-out adult tooth is one of the few dental emergencies where minutes count. The sooner it’s back in place or kept moist and seen by a dentist, the better the chance of saving it.
Try to stay calm, and if it’s your child, keep them calm too. These steps are simple and you can do them before you get in the car.
1
Find the tooth and pick it up by the crown, the white part you chew with. Try not to touch the root.
2
If it’s dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline. Don’t scrub it, and don’t let it dry out.
3
If you can, gently push it back into the socket the right way round, then bite softly on a clean cloth to hold it there.
4
If it won’t go back, put it in a small container of milk. An adult can also hold it inside their mouth against the cheek.
5
Call us straight away on (03) 8782 0026 and say a tooth has been knocked out, so we can see you as soon as we possibly can.

Your emergency visit to Lynbrook Dental Care, step by step

1
We listen and take a look
We’ll start by asking what happened and how you’re feeling. Then we’ll gently examine the area and take X-rays if they’re needed, so we understand what’s causing the problem, not just the symptoms.
2
We explain your options
We’ll tell you what we found in plain words, along with your options and their costs, before any treatment begins. Ask as many questions as you like. Nothing goes ahead without your OK.
3
We relieve pain and plan what's next
Our first priority is to relieve your pain and get you comfortable. If the tooth needs more care later, such as a crown or a wisdom tooth removal , we’ll plan follow-up visits at times that suit you.
