Prevention is always the best medicine and is the number one priority for the Lynbrook Dental Care team.

Regular Dental Checkups

The best way to maintain good oral health is to visit your dentist every 6 months or as advised by your clinician depending on your risk factors. Detecting problems early allows the most conservative form of treatment to be used whilst also enabling a thorough professional clean. By the time you start to get symptoms, the cause has often progressed to an advanced stage.

Good Oral Hygiene

This includes using a fluoridated toothpaste, and brushing at least twice a day. Flossing daily is also imperative as plaque also builds up in between your teeth, which your toothbrush alone cannot remove. A mouthwash or topical paste may also be of benefit, though it is best to ask your Lynbrook Dental Care team member about which is best for you.

  • Try to maintain saliva in your mouth as it is the bodys way of protecting your teeth. Chewing sugarfree gum or sugar free lozenges (e.g. extra drops) can maintain production.
  • Avoid sugary or acidic drinks (coke, cordial, sports drinks etc) but if you really have to drink them have it during a meal. Try to rinse your mouth with water afterwards and never brush immediately after (the acid softens your teeth, making it more prone to wear).
  • Drink plenty of water whist limiting caffeine intake (coffee, coke etc.) to maintain high saliva levels
  • Avoid snacking in between meals or grazing (sipping or eating sweets / drinks throughout the day). Limit the frequency of sweets and avoid the really sticky ones
  • Cut down on sugar in your teas and coffees
